In your class novel, Fahrenheit 451: 60th Anniversary Edition, you have access to several wonderfully instructive articles. I will list some titles below, and will assign readings in class.
1. "The Story of Fahrenheit 451" by Jonathan R. Eller 167-187
2. From "The Day After Tomorrow: Why Science Fiction?" by Ray Bradbury 188-191
3. "Fahrenheit 451: Audio Introduction" by Ray Bradbury 192-197

An excellent overview of the novel can be found in "Fahrenheit 451." Novels for Students. Ed. Diane Telgen. Vol. 1. Detroit: Gale, 1997. 138-157. Gale Virtual Reference Library. Web. 27 August 2015. This secondary source provides: a biography, a plot summary, a list of characters, a brief discussion of themes, a discussion of style, a discussion of symbolism, historical context, a discussion of censorship, a critical overview, and a list of suggested readings.
Paul Brian's Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and the Dystopian Tradition discusses the origins of dystopic works and identifies a number of relevant examples. Moreover, this source situates Bradbury's work in the historical context and examines its critical reception. Interestingly, Brian also explores modern reactions to the novel and explains why Bradbury's F. 451 continues to resonate across the decades. Lastly, this writer discusses the ways in which Bradbury's dire warnings regarding conformity have not actually occurred in today's world.
All of the secondary sources in this section are from Bloom's Literature Facts on File Inc.. You have access to this database through the Timmins High & Vocational School Library. Should you require access off-campus, you can type "Facts on File" into a google search, enter the username (thvs), enter the password (blues), and select "Bloom's Literature." I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with this database so that you have a jumpstart when it comes time to research. For now, I will include PDF versions of useful criticism of Fahrenheit 451.
